Ghana has been exploring for oil and gas for many years now. The status of the Country has changed from the late 19th Century in the onshore Western Region when exploration only followed oil seepages to recent times when exploration is taking place in ultra-deepwater. The Petroleum Sector has changed from one of imports of crude to one where oil is exported to Europe and the far east.
Ghana’s upstream sector has seen substantial investment from the late 1990s to date following a string of exploration successes in the deepwater Tano basin. The World Class Jubilee field was the toast of the world in 2007 when the discovery was made. Following its successful fast track development, Ghana saw massive successes in its exploration operations such that between 2010 and 2015, over twenty oil and gas discoveries were made offshore Tano basin.
